It is related that one day they came upon Majnun sifting the dust, and his tears flowing down. They said, "What doest thou?" He said, "I seek for Layli." They cried, "Alas for thee! Layli is of pure spirit, and thou seekest her in the dust!" He said, "I seek her everywhere; haply somewhere I shall find her."
(Baha'u'llah, The Seven Valleys, p. 6)

Who is Layli and why do we seek her?

Distinguishing spring from autumn

"He will likewise clearly distinguish all the signs of God -- His wondrous utterances, His great works, and mighty deeds -- from the doings, words and ways of men, even as the jeweller who knoweth the gem from the stone, or the man who distinguisheth the spring from autumn and heat from cold." Baha'u'llah

One way of distinguishing spring from autumn is to check if you are looking at the beauty of spring flowers or autumnal fungi. If its time for the fungi one of the best places to be is Notley Fern Gorge so that's where we are going to seek Layli on Sunday 27th May at 12 noon.

The Gorge is easy to get to if you can find Launceston.   Just head up the west Tamar Highway towards Exeter  and after about 11km turn left onto Bridgenorth Rd (signs for C732/ Rosevale).  Its then the second on the right into Notley Gorge Road and you will find the car park.
Obviously you can also get there from Exeter and, if coming from the West, there are signs on the right between Frankford and Exeter just on the Exeter side of Glengarry.

Bring food and devotion and be prepared for a short but in places steep walk (or to wait for us at the top).

Hope to see you there.

...the clouds of His limitless grace...

"O friends! It behoveth you to refresh and revive your souls through the gracious favors which in this Divine, this soul-stirring Springtime are being showered upon you. The Day Star of His great glory hath shed its radiance upon you, and the clouds of His limitless grace have overshadowed you. How high the reward of him that hath not deprived himself of so great a bounty, nor failed to recognize the beauty of his Best-Beloved in this, His new attire." Baha'u'llah

Well the jury is still out on whether Layli is calling on powerful friends to protect Mt. Discovery trail from seekers' eyes.  Unlike last time, a few of us did make it there, as you can see above, but others were turned back by the rain and those of us who did make it had our search hindered by a dense cloud sitting on the mountain.  Further dark suspicions were raised by the undoubted fact that someone, or some elemental force, had removed the piano.
Still we had, by our standards, a luxurious picnic, inside, with a wood fire, and good water, though, as said, sadly no piano. The fire was a special blessing on a dank day.

"The brightness of the fire of your love will no doubt fuse and unify the contending peoples and kindreds of the earth, whilst the fierceness of the flame of enmity and hatred cannot but result in strife and ruin." Baha'u'llah
And then we set out on a rather well made path not forgetting that Layli may found in the treetops as well as at ground level::

the path became rather less well-made:

"Whatever befalleth in the path of God is the beloved of the soul and the desire of the heart." Baha'u'llah
and as it happens no-one fell.

There was as always much to marvel at in God's creation
